Remembering Mae Ann Senior
We are sorry
to report the passing of Mae Ann Senior, a long-time member of GCD who played
key roles in the organization for many, many years, on December 29, 2010. Mae Ann Senior
was a true lady--genteel and sweet. She
and her husband George were founding members of The Germantown Country
Dancers in 1971-2. They had done folk
dancing previously. When we needed to
leave Germantown Friends School, Mae Ann and George looked to old friends in
the community where George grew up. Thus
we started dancing at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Germantown at Manheim
and Pulaski Streets. We also started
a long friendship with Mrs. Lesser, the pastor’s wife, for the many years we
used that facility. Mae Ann was
the chairman of our first balls, adding a special gracious atmosphere to the
ball and starting traditions which last to this day. She planned a dinner (banquet in her terms)
with her cousin catering. She had us
decorate the spare boys gym at Germantown Friends school with banners and
decorations from the New York dance group. We brought in card tables, tablecloths, chairs and lamps to make
pleasant seating and a romantic atmosphere. She had a lovely tea set for the break. She made sure that our guests and musicians were comfortable. Mae Ann (and
George until his death in 1980) faithfully danced with GCD and performed in
the demonstration teams both country and colonial. She led a small dance group in New Jersey, the Pinelands Country Dancers,
for many years. We will miss her. Relatives and
friends are invited to attend Mae Ann’s Funeral Service on Friday,
December 31, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 41 East
Linwood Avenue, Maple Shade, NJ 08052.
Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ will be January 8th at
11:00 AM. Family Services by
Inglesby/Givnish of Maple Shade 856-779-7900.
